Septarian Nodule Ring - The stone is set in fine silver on a sterling silver backplate. Backplate and ring band are hammer textured. The ring has been oxidized to highlight the textures. The back is stamped with the Shiny Objects makers mark.
Septarian stone or septarian nodules are concretions (or fossilized sediment) containing cracks and cavities that were filled in with minerals such as calcite, aragonite, limestone and others causing the very unique patterns. The stone in this necklace also has sparkling pyrite inclusions and is brown, black, white & gold. Septarian is often referred to as "Dragon Stone" because the unusual patterns make people think of dragon skin. These unusual stones were formed between 50 and 70 million years ago!
