Intarsia Necklace with Handmade Chain - Stone Intarsia is a lapidary craft that combines various types of stones, carefully cut and fitted together to create mosaics and decorative art. Intarsia has history going back to the ancient Egyptians and artisans of the Roman Empire who worked in both wood and in stone.
This intarsia cabochon was made by me after taking a fascinating course with a master lapidary artist. I learned to make these small artworks by meticulously cutting the material to fit together perfectly. I am captivated by the endless options using the many materials I have collected over the years. Stay tuned for many more intarsia pieces from Shiny Objects!
The necklace shown here has Campitos Turquoise (with pyrite inclusions) from Mexico, Sodalite and Malachite. Polished sterling silver separates each section of stone.
The stone is bezel set in fine silver and backed with sterling silver. The backplate has a hand hammered texture. The entire necklace has been oxidized to highlight the textures. The back of the pendant is stamped with the Shiny Objects makers mark. The pendant hangs from a completely hand crafted paperclip chain with handmade hook clasp.
